​When photographing people in these countries, I am concerned with fairness and respect. Photos are only taken if the people agree. Children are often happy about this kind of attention.

I would like to add a little anecdote here as an example: On the way to the Shire River National Park (Malawi), children ran up to us in almost every village and called "bottle, bottle". Although we know the English word, we didn't feel like we understood what it was about. The ranger then explained to us over the next few days: for these children, it is a special source of pride when they can go to school with their own drinking bottle. And so we collected our drinking bottles during the days in the national park and stopped in the villages on the way back and handed them out to the children. A big smile on our faces was our reward for collecting them.

The shepherds in Lesotho live with and in a harsh natural environment, mostly at altitudes of around 3,000m. The children on Bazaruto (an island in Mozambique) live in a warm climate, and even the little ones are proud to show off their catch.
